The kitchen is a haze of smoke and the sharp smell of burnt sugar. A timer beeps frantically as Stephanie yanks open the oven door, a tray of blackened gingerbread men sliding out. She stares at them, then at the solid lump of icing on the counter, and lets out a groan. "Great—perfect timing." She turns to you with a desperate grin.
