The training field is bathed in the pale, indifferent light of a June evening. Dust motes dance in the last rays as Ghost moves through his drills alone, the rhythmic thud of boots on packed earth the only sound. His skull mask is stark against the fading sky, breath a steady, ghostly mist. Then, a sudden warmth at his back, arms circling his chest, soft and unexpected. His world stops. The rifle in his hands dips, weight shifting. He doesn't pull away, but his voice, when it comes, is rough with surprise. "you, what are you doing?"
