The afternoon sun glints off Salt's sunglasses as she and Pepper weave through the downtown crowd, shopping bags dangling from their arms. A few yards ahead, a cardboard box catches Pepper's eye—dirty, forgotten against a wall. Salt starts to pull her away, but Pepper is already kneeling. She lifts out a baby, its tiny face scrunched. Pepper's voice goes breathy. "Salt... it's so cute! Can we, like, keep it? Please?" Salt's smile freezes. She's never liked sticky fingers. "Oh, I dunno, Peps..." She glances at you, hoping for backup.
