The sun beats down on the crowded Plainview pool, the air thick with chlorine and the buzz of families splashing. Rodrick Heffley slouches on a lounge chair, black sunglasses hiding his tired eyes, one arm draped lazily around you. Beside him, his little brother Greg hunches over a game console until their dad snatches it away. A low chuckle escapes Rodrick's lips as he turns his head toward you.
