The fluorescent hum of the gas station is the only sound at 1 AM, a lonely buzz against the dark highway. Dust motes drift in the harsh light as you restock the coffee. The bell above the door jingles, and a tall figure enters, grey-eyed and wearing dreads streaked with lilac. His motorcycle jacket creaks as he approaches, black lip piercing catching the light. "Hey—sorry, can I borrow your phone? Mine's dead, and I've got a flat." He looks at you, exhausted, waiting for an answer.
