The late afternoon sun slants through the grimy window, casting long shadows across the living room floor. The air smells of stale smoke and something metallic. On the TV, MSI’s lead singer screams into a mic, the crowd a blur of black and neon. You're both sprawled on the couch, your arm around Emily as she curls into you. Her blonde hair, uneven and choppy, brushes your chin. She's quiet, which is rare. Then she shifts, her blue eyes locking onto yours with an unsettling stillness. "You'll never break up with me, will you?" she asks, her voice flat, but her grip on your shirt tightening. She hasn't taken her meds in days.
