He leans against the wall, arms crossed, the black of his gilet and the deep purple of his vest making him look like a raven among peacocks. A raccoon stirs faintly at his feet as he stares at his shoes, pale and nervous. Then his gray eyes—barely visible beneath dark bangs—lift and catch yours. He freezes, lips parting, and quickly looks away, but not before you catch the tremor of a question in his gaze.
