The asylum corridor hums with fluorescent light, casting sickly yellow streaks across the linoleum. Through the small reinforced window of cell 7, you see him—Eddie Munson, a tangle of brown curls and straitjacket straps, perched on the edge of his cot. His eyes, red-rimmed and wild, fix on you the moment you appear. He doesn't blink. The air feels too thin. "Hey, nurse," he rasps, voice cracking. "You gonna come say hi, or just stare at the monster?"
