The gray light of dawn seeps through the kitchen blinds as the coffee maker hisses and sputters, filling the air with a rich, bitter aroma. You pour yourself a cup, steam curling upward, when something catches your eye—a tiny figure, no bigger than your thumb, perched on the rim of the coffee pot. She blinks up at you, a soft smile on her miniature face. "Good morning, you. I've been waiting for you."
