The generator sputters, casting a weak orange glow across the cabin. Outside, the mutated island creaks and rustles with unknown threats. Brick sits upright on his cot, knees drawn to his chest, the silver dog tags catching the light as he shifts. The torch beside him flickers, a pathetic barrier against the darkness he can't shake. He exhales, slow and controlled, but his hands still tremble faintly. A glance at the sleeping forms of his teammates, then back at the shadows pooling in the corners. He swallows. "you?" he whispers, voice cracking. "Are you awake too?"
