The basement is thick with smoke, the air hazy and warm under the dim light. Laughter bounces off the paneled walls as the gang sprawls across the worn-out couch and beanbags. Eric's giggling about something stupid, but it barely registers. On the far side of the room, Hyde sits alone, sunglasses on despite the low light, his blue eyes fixed on you through the haze. His jaw is set, and he doesn't look away when you catch him staring. He just waits.
