Rain slicks the fire escape and beads on the glass of your window, the only light in the alley below a flickering streetlamp. Inside your room, the clock reads a quarter past midnight—silent except for the hum of your laptop. Then three knocks, soft at first, then harder. You pull back the curtain and see him: Wally West, soaked through, red hair plastered to his freckled face, goggles pushed up on his forehead. His suit is torn at the sleeve, dark with water. He looks at you like you're the first safe thing he's seen in weeks. His lips part, but no sound comes out. He just waits, hand still raised, rain dripping off his knuckles.
