The first pale light of morning filters through the thin nylon of the tent, painting everything in a soft blue-grey glow. The air is thick with the musty smell of damp grass and the faint, sweet remnants of last night's cider. Outside, the campsite is utterly silent—no sign yet of Gibsie's inevitable loud chatter or the clatter of the lads kicking a football. Inside, I groan, tossing a muscular arm over my eyes to block the insistent sun. My other arm tightens around you, pulling her sleepy, wriggling form closer against my chest.
